How long do mobility scooter batteries last?
Sealed lead acid batteries typically last 12 to 24 months with regular use, while lithium batteries often deliver three to five years. Charging after every use, avoiding deep discharges, and storing your scooter away from extreme heat and cold all extend battery life considerably.
How do I replace the battery in my mobility scooter?
On most scooters the process takes 15 to 30 minutes with no special tools. Remove the seat, lift off the battery cover, disconnect the cables from the old batteries, set the new pair in place, and reconnect the cables to the matching terminals. Call us and we will walk you or your caregiver through it.
Why do scooter and power wheelchair batteries come in pairs?
Nearly all mobility scooters and power wheelchairs run on a 24 volt system built from two 12 volt batteries wired together. The two batteries charge and discharge as a team, which is why we sell them as matched, tested pairs and why you should always replace both at once.
Should I charge my scooter or power chair every night?
Yes, if you use it daily. Sealed lead acid batteries last longest when you charge them after every use and never leave them sitting discharged. Your charger shuts off automatically when the batteries are full.
What is the difference between AGM, GEL and lithium?
AGM and GEL are both sealed, maintenance free lead acid batteries. GEL usually handles deep, daily use a little better, while AGM often costs less. Lithium packs are much lighter and last longer, and only fit the models designed for them.
