Jazzy Air 2 Replacement Battery Pair

This is a replacement battery pair for the Pride Jazzy Air 2 elevating power chair. We stock the 40Ah class upgrade in two MK Powered versions: the M40-12 SLD M, a 12V 45Ah sealed AGM battery, or the M40-12 SLD G, a 12V 40Ah gel battery built for deeper cycling and tougher conditions. Both step up from the standard U1 batteries and extend your range from roughly 16.8 miles to about 19.2. Both ship as matched, tested pairs, and every order ships free with large print instructions.

Product Description

Your Pride Jazzy Air 2 does something almost no other power chair does: it lifts you 12 inches in 11 seconds, and it keeps driving at full speed while elevated. That means conversations at eye level, reaching the upper shelf at the supermarket, and working at a countertop instead of around it. Mid-Wheel 6 drive and Active-Trac suspension handle the rest, indoors and out. All of it runs on two 12 volt batteries wired as a 24 volt pair, and the elevation motor draws from that same pair every time you rise.

Pride builds the Air 2 with standard U1 batteries and offers a 40Ah class upgrade, and the upgrade is what we stock. The MK M40-12 SLD M is a 12 volt, 45 amp hour sealed AGM battery with the highest capacity of the two. The MK M40-12 SLD G is a 12 volt, 40 amp hour gel battery, and although its amp hour number reads lower, gel handles deep discharges more gracefully, tolerates heat and cold better, and typically delivers more usable cycles over its life. Either way, you move up from the standard U1 range of about 16.8 miles to roughly 19.2 miles per charge.

That extra capacity matters more on this chair than on most, because every elevation cycle costs energy. Riders who use the lift throughout the day, at the kitchen counter, at the table, at the store, notice their range shrinking faster than the spec sheet suggests. A larger pair gives you the headroom to use the feature you paid for without watching the gauge.

MK has supplied the leading wheelchair and power chair manufacturers for decades, and both options are sealed, completely maintenance free, and spillproof, so there is no water to add and no risk of a spill on carpet or in a vehicle. Your batteries ship partially charged, which is standard for safe transport, so give them a full overnight charge before your first outing, then charge daily for the first two weeks. Pride specifically notes that new batteries need this break in period to reach their optimal range, so slightly short early rides are normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most last 12 to 24 months, depending on how often you use the chair, how frequently you use the elevation feature, charging habits, and storage conditions. Heavy daily users typically replace closer to the one year mark.

Signs include reduced driving range, slower acceleration, the elevation feature operating more slowly, difficulty holding a charge, or the gauge dropping quickly after a full charge. Replacing both batteries together gives the best results.

They are the upgrade. Pride builds the Air 2 with standard U1 batteries and offers a 40Ah class option, which is what we stock. Both MK versions fit the same compartment and extend your range from about 16.8 miles to roughly 19.2.

The 45Ah AGM gives the most capacity per charge. The 40Ah gel trades a small amount of capacity for tougher deep cycling and better tolerance of heat and cold. Heavy daily users and anyone storing the chair in extreme temperatures often prefer gel.

Gel chemistry stores slightly less energy in the same case size, but handles deep discharges and temperature extremes far better and typically delivers more usable cycles. You trade a little range for durability, which suits heavy daily use.

Yes. The lift motor draws from the same battery pair that drives the chair, so frequent elevation cycles shorten your real world range. That is a large part of why the larger 40Ah class pair is worth having on this chair.

We recommend replacing both batteries at the same time. Mixing an old battery with a new one reduces performance, shortens battery life, and strains the charging system. Never mix AGM and gel batteries in the same pair.

They ship partially charged, which is standard practice for safe battery transport. Give them a full overnight charge before your first outing, and charge daily for the first two weeks, since Pride notes new batteries need a break in period to reach optimal range.

Yes, and it matters more than most people realize. Batteries left discharged lose capacity permanently, and manufacturers commonly require charging at least once a week for 24 hours during storage to keep coverage valid.

No, and they do not need to. You reuse the existing cables and terminal hardware from your current batteries, which is standard for this chair. Everything transfers over during the swap.
